Location

The advanced training will be held in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where participants will enjoy the unique academic environment and resources available on campus. The university is accessible by public transportation or taxi from Boston's Logan International Airport and South Station.

Selection of Participants

The goal of the advanced training course is to provide participants with training opportunities tailored to meet the needs of practitioners and policymakers. UN, diplomatic staff, government and NGO professionals will find the curriculum specifically designed to address the legal challenges encountered in humanitarian operations in situations of armed conflict. Others with substantial interest and relevant experience, including journalists and members of the military, are also welcome. Through the review of relevant legal frameworks applicable to the protection of victims of armed conflict and timely case studies, participants will engage in a varied course of study, to include in-depth discussions and debate.

The advanced training is specifically structured for mid-career professionals. It is suggested that applicants have prior exposure to either the theory or application of IHL (either through practical experience in humanitarian affairs or some prior legal training).

Enrollment will be limited to 40 participants. Participants are invited to apply for the advanced training based on professional interest and knowledge of IHL. Please see Application Form for application information.

Expenses

Tuition for the training is $1500 USD per participant, which does not include acommodation. Dorm-style accommodations at a reduced rate have been arranged for accepted participants. Associated travel costs must also be borne by participants.
